This policy explains how 1 Check Pty Ltd collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information through 1-check.com.au and our Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check service.
Overview
1 Check Pty Ltd (ABN 44 636 230 610), trading as 1-Check, respects your right to privacy. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Crime Commission Act 2002 (Cth).
Information we collect
When you apply for a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, we collect the information needed to process your application and consent form — including your name, address, date of birth, contact details, identity document details (such as driver licence, passport, Medicare or firearms licence numbers), a self-captured photo, and payment details.
We may collect further information when you contact our support team, respond to a survey, or otherwise interact with our website.
Sensitive information
Your check involves sensitive information — your criminal history, as returned by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) and relevant police agencies. We only use this information to produce your report and comply with our accreditation obligations, and retain it only for as long as the ACIC requires (see Retention below).
How we use and disclose your information
We disclose your information to the ACIC and relevant police agencies to process your check. We may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property or safety of 1-Check, our customers or third parties. We do not sell your personal information.
Data security
Personal information collected for a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check is stored in Australia only, with access limited to authorised staff and contractors. We use industry-standard encryption to protect data in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Retention and disposal
As an ACIC-accredited body, we retain Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check results for no more than 12 months from collection, after which the information is securely destroyed. If you need a copy after that period, you will need to submit a new application.
Access and correction
You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing our Information Protection Officer at support@1-check.com.au. We may charge a reasonable administrative fee and may decline requests in circumstances permitted under the Privacy Act.
Cookies
Our website may use cookies to understand how visitors use the site and improve the experience. Most browsers accept cookies automatically; you can choose to disable them in your browser settings, though this may limit some site functionality.
Complaints
If you believe we have not complied with your privacy rights, you can lodge a complaint with our Information Protection Officer at support@1-check.com.au. If you remain dissatisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
